Sneak Peak: Bannack Ghost Town

This little shot was captured at Bannack, Montana on Feb 22, 2011. I'm still editing the pictures I took there [over 600!] but some of the best will grace the pages of this very blog in the near future.

To create this image I shot a picure of a door from both sides. It caught my eye after seeing how the doorknobs seemed to make a heart shape. First, I flipped the image vertically because the colors were more dull and I wanted that to be by "past" side. Next, I added an overlay texture shot the the left side of the image and reduced the opacity. Third, I added a gray rectangle and made it transparent. I added my text, one word at a time, using three different fonts. The kearning between letters has been adjsuted. And that's how I created this image. Thinking about using it as my poster size [36x24in] poster...but it would take a lot of clone stamping. And I'm really busy designing all sorts of wedding and adoption announcements [okay- really one of each]. They'll be up shortly!

a little more about my work as publicity coordinator

In the previous post, you saw photos I took at Nashville Nights. I thought that I'd share a little more of the design work that I've been doing this semester for Talent Activities.

The following publicity pieces were created for Nashville Nights.
1. 11x17in Poster
2. 3x2in Vertical Flier
3. Web Banner
4. 30X60in Vertical Banner

Nashville Nights

This semester, I'm Publicity Coordinator for BYU-Idaho's Talent Activities Program. Basically, I design posters, fliers, web banners, etc. to promote performances on campus. All performances are student run and-let me tell you- awesome. I'm so impressed with what we are able to do when we ask the Lord for help. I can constantly see his hand in the work that the Talent Board does. I feel so bless to attend Brigham Young University - Idaho [learn more about my school here].

Talent Activities recently created a Facebook page to let people know about who we are what what we do. I took the pictures below of Nashville Nights [Winter 2011] to add to our Facebook page. Oh- and to document this awesome night of country music! The performers were incredible!

Enjoy!

P.S. I'm sorry there are so many- but I didn't want to leave anyone out!

Digital Imaging: Scannography [n.]

I know I've been slacking on posting.
But it's because I've been working on some pretty awesome projects.
Don't worry you'l get to see them soon!
Until than, here is a little scannography.

Scannography [n.] more commonly referred to as scanner photography, is the process of capturing digitized images of objects for the purpose of creating printable art using a flatbed "photo" scanner. [wikipedia]
for more information...go to scannography.org

All of this weeks scannography art was inspired by bright spring colors. In case you can't tell- the little taste of sunshine we got this weekend has definitely got me wanting more!
Photos have some minor Camera Raw edits.

1. Take me someplace sunny
2. Erase away the dark

My sister and I have a semi obsession with paper, colored pencils, pens, folders, binders, notebooks and all other things school supply related.

My two personal favorite are post-its and sharpies! In fact, I got two 24 packs of sharpies for my birthday [one fine point and one ultra fine point!]

Here is my ode to school supplies:
The first collage is made of up two photos: one of post-it notes and one of erasers. I first opened a blank document and arranged two sizes of the the post-it note shot in a random collage. Next I opened the eraser document and made a selection of just the erasers and saved it as a new image with a transparent background. I then placed the images on top of the post-it note collage.

My second collage is made up of three images: all of sharpie markers. I overlayed these images and adjusted the opacity. The first layer is at 100%, the second at 80% and the third at 40%. After flattening the image I edited in it Camera Raw. I tried making this collage in various other ways, but it never really worked out quite right. Any other suggestions?
